Bond Funds at Work

Edward Street Upgrade - 6th Avenue to DeBarr Road

This project upgraded this local road to collector street standards. Improvements included pavement, curbs, pedestrian facilities on both sides, street lighting, underground storm drains and landscaping. The majority of this road was a deteriorating narrow strip-paved road with no drainage facilities, marginal lighting, and limited pedestrian facilities. This road provides access to Ptarmigan Elementary School. Improvements were requested by area residents, the Anchorage School District and the Northeast Community Council. ARDSA bond funds included approximately $4 million to complete construction funding and provide a promised local match to a $3.8 million state grant received in 2008. Construction was started in 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2010. (Community Council: Northeast, Assembly District 5)
